Beautifully spacious and always inviting, Sugarcube® is known for its distinctive urban mix of inspired American and international fashion through collaborations with independent designers and the restoration and showcasing of select vintage styles. A.P.C., Dunderdon, Gestuz, Tracy Reese, Steven Alan, Pendleton, Levi’s® Vintage Clothing and Bing Bang Jewelry unite in this dynamic industrial lodge for men and women.

brief history
With trademark in process, Sugarcube®’s first Old City location was the 1867 historic building in which Anthony J. Drexel created the world’s first trans-Atlantic banking network. The collaborating friends Elisa and Edward rehabilitated the dilapidated landmark space using repurposed building materials, transforming the original vault into a dressing room, and showcasing clean design, vintage and contemporary women’s lines were showcased with museum quality care.
In 2007, Sugarcube® recommitted to its Old City neighborhood by moving only three blocks to its current location. Still on Third Street, the new space may be four times larger (affording the opportunity to include men’s clothing), but the core aesthetic and curatorial direction continues to inspire and support Elisa’s and Edward’s original vision.
Soon after Sugarcube®’s move, “The 3rd Street Corridor” was coined by GPTMC (Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation). Businesses now work together to wholly benefit from the branding and consolidation. Customers easily become enthusiasts, milling about from one independent and locally owned business to another. GPTMC’s celebrated partnership with Old City District (spearheaded by Sugarcube®) plays a vital role in promoting this premiere shopping destination.
With wide media recognition, accolades and word-of-mouth publicity, Sugarcube® is solidly viewed as the corner stone of this art, fashion and design zone. Of special note is Sugarcube®’s inclusion in the world-famous and design-centric Wall Paper* Travel Guides—a first for the City of Philadelphia.
With a growing regional, national and international customer base Sugarcube® continues to embrace Old City and the Philadelphia region as its welcomed home.
